How to strengthen nurse retention and improve team morale.
Diakonie Stiftung Salem reduced the charting burden on their nurses across seven care facilities, with voize's AI speech assistant capabilities, resulting in higher nurse retention, team morale and staff satisfaction.
The challenge
High documentation workload, little time, and stressed teams
At Diakonie Stiftung Salem, the situation was clear: the documentation burden was enormous, and parallel IT systems made the work even more complicated. Caregivers often entered records only at the end of their shift, not because they wanted to, but because daily routines left no other room. This consumed time, mental capabilities, and energy that should have benefited the residents.
The consequences showed within the team: frustration, time pressure, and a staff turnover rate above their desired facility target. At the same time, competition for skilled workers was intensifying. For division manager Carsten Wöhler, one thing was clear: “We had to find ways to relieve our staff, otherwise we would lose them.”

The solution
AI as a tool for workload relief and employer attractiveness
With voize, voice documentation was firmly integrated into everyday care at Diakonie Stiftung Salem. Caregivers speak their entries directly in the resident's room or immediately after a care measure instead of entering them later under time pressure at a PC. voize’s AI understands care context, recognizes dialects and professional terminology, and automatically transfers spoken input as a structured entry into the existing Vivendi (EHR) documentation system. Vital signs, for example, are automatically converted into a statistical record, without any additional effort on the part of the caregivers.
What particularly convinced Diakonie Stiftung Salem was that voize thinks along their caregivers. It is not solely a dictation tool, but an AI that understands what is being recorded and turns it into what needs to be documented. Especially for caregivers whose native language is not German, this is a real advantage: accents and dialects are no longer barriers.
The relief voize offers to caregivers in their daily work makes Salem visibly stand out — and deliberately so. voize is actively mentioned in job postings, and a video on the careers page explains concretely what the voize app means for caregivers and their workload. What previously remained abstract in job interviews is now demonstrable through voize.

The collaboration
From caregivers’ concept to lived practice
The origin of voize’s presence at Diakonie Stiftung Salem lies not in the boardroom, but with the team. Back in 2022, trainees at Diakonie Stiftung Salem worked together with board member Christian Schultz in an agile innovation workshop to develop concrete foundations for how administrative tasks in care could be simplified. Just a few weeks later, those responsible made first contact with voize.
- Pilot phase in selected residential areas with direct feedback from caregivers to the developers
- Training in close collaboration with the voize team
- Development of internal champions who pass on their knowledge within the team in a lateral manner
- Staged rollout to all seven locations
- voize actively used in job postings, on the careers page, and in external communications
